Astronomical Cycles

Astronomical cycles can be either viewed in isolation, as an astronomer would usually view them, or in association with other cycles of life, as they have been viewed by many civilisations since we first gazed at the stars.
To ultimately understand the workings of any cycles, whether they be climatic, economic or personal, one should investigate the mechanics of all cycles. Nothing exists in isolation... the "big picture" can only be fully understood when one understands how the components link together. The aim of presenting the following information is to develop an understanding of astronomical cycles as they may resonate with other cycles of interest.
(As the web-site develops, explanations of the planetary harmonics and resonances will be expanded.)

Planetary Orbits

 Sidereal Period (Earth Years) Synodic Period (Earth Days) Mercury 0.24085 (88 days) 115.88 Venus 0.61521 (224.7 days) 583.92 Earth 1.00004 - Moon 27.32166 days 29.53059 days Mars 1.88089 779.94 Jupiter 11.86223 398.88 Saturn 29.45772 378.09 Uranus 84.01331 369.66 Neptune 164.79345 367.48 Pluto 247.686 366.72

Sidereal Period: (2-body viewpoint) Period for one body to complete an orbit of the other.
Synodic Period: (3-body viewpoint) Period between two successive conjunctions(line-ups) of two bodies as viewed from the third (in this case Earth).

Curious Harmonics/Resonances
The following table presents a selection of curiously simple harmonics in a seemingly complex multi-body orbital system...the solar system.

Mercury Orbit (Earth days) Rotation (Earth days) Synodic Period Ratio Harmonic Notes 87.969 58.6462 1.500 On every orbit of the Sun, the exact opposite side of Mercury faces the Sun. Venus 224.701 -243.0187 583.92 2.402 Venus day=116.78 Earth Days 5*116.78 = 583.92 On every inferior conjunction of Venus and the Sun, the same face of Venus faces the Earth. Moon 29.53059 29.53059 1.000 The same side of the Moon always faces Earth. Earth 365.25 1.000 Earth-Mercury 13.00*365.25 = 54.00*87.969 (error of 2 days in 13 years) Every 13 years Earth and Mercury align at the same zodiac degree. Earth-Venus 8.00*365.25=13.00*224.701 Every 8 years Earth and Venus align at the same zodiac degree. Mars-Jupiter Every 2.2353 years Mars and Jupiter align Heliocentrically . 2.236=the square root of 5.00 Mars-Saturn Every 2.009 years Mars and Saturn align Heliocentrically. Mars travels 360o+24.55o and Saturn travels 24.55o

:Heliocentric - Geocentric
A heliocentric viewpoint is that with the sun in the centre, while a geocentric viewpoint is that with the Earth in the centre. Both systems should be considered when studying the astronomical cyclic relationships...they are inexorably linked, but have distinctly unique cyclic characteristics. There is argument and evidence from both disciplines, but will astronomy and astrology ultimately begin to complement eachother again, rather than continue to operate in isolation?

A Short Philosophical Note
There is increasing evidence that we are sensitive, electrochemical beings living in an ocean of electromagnetic waves. We live on a planet within an enormous magnetic field which is pulsating under the influence of the solar wind and cosmic radiation...surely we cannot isolate ourselves from such a "big picture".
